Booking.com reveals latest travel trends in 2025

Booking.com, one of the world’s leading digital travel platforms, reveals that solo travel is rapidly gaining traction among Hong Kong travellers. Nearly 1 in 4 Hong Kong travellers embrace solo adventures and Gen Z in the lead with 35% planning solo trips in 2025.

This year, 24% of Hongkongers plan at least one solo trip, surpassing the global average of 18%. Gen Z (ages 18-27) leads the trend, with 35% eager to embark on solo adventures, reflecting a growing desire for independence and self-discovery.

In 2024, according to a survey* by Booking.com, nearly 30% of the Hong Kong travellers spent 5 to 9 days for leisure while 23% of them spent up to 14 days. Overall, 22% of Hong Kong travellers ventured solo, with the following motivations: ● 59% wanted the freedom to create their itinerary, substantially higher than the global average of 38%. This preference is significantly reflected in Gen Z, at 69% ● 38% wanted time for self-reflection and to travel alone ● 31% did not want to align their plans with someone else, particularly among male travellers (36%)

Solo travel is set to surge further, with 61% of solo travellers planning international trips and 59% prioritising relaxation, well above the global average of 49%. Millennials (aged 29-44) are notably inclined toward restorative getaways.
