Médecins Sans Frontières Launches “Lifesaving Without Pause” Exhibition

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) Hong Kong has launched the “Lifesaving Without Pause” Exhibition as part of its annual MSF Day campaign. Running from 5 to 11 July at The Wai in Tai Wai, the exhibition highlights MSF’s persistent efforts to provide medical and humanitarian assistance to people affected by unrelenting conflicts, epidemics, and disasters around the globe.
As part of the campaign, a sharing session was held today (7 July), featuring MSF aid workers Mr Chiu Cheuk-Pong, Ms So Hin-Pui (Krystal), and Ms Lau Hiu-Ching (Lucy). The speakers shared impactful frontline stories and moving personal experiences, offering the audience a rare glimpse into the realities of humanitarian work in crisis settings.
Exhibition Themes and Highlights
Featuring a compelling collection of firsthand accounts from the field, the exhibition engages visitors in the stories behind MSF's more than five decades of continuous medical humanitarian work. It is structured around four thematic pillars: • Conflicts Without Pause: In 2024, over 120 armed conflicts raged across the world, causing massive casualties and large scale of displacement. Today, more than one third of all MSF projects are dedicated to assisting people living in areas of war and armed conflict. Among these, the scale of destruction witnessed by MSF teams in Gaza is particularly devastating.
“Around the world, conflicts have inflicted immense suffering - claiming lives, tearing families apart, and forcing survivors to endure displacement, hunger, and the collapse of medical care. In Gaza and other crisis zones, MSF teams are committed to delivering lifesaving medical care, yet the scale of need far exceeds the response as violence persists and humanitarian aid remains blocked,” said Ms So Hin-Pui (Krystal), a nurse and midwife who completed two assignments in Gaza last year.
• Natural Disasters Without Pause: The frequency and intensity of natural disasters—many driven by climate change—are on the rise. In 2024 alone, nearly 400 major natural disasters affected more than 160 million people worldwide. “MSF continues to respond swiftly and comprehensively— not only to treat immediate injuries, but also to support communities impacted by the destruction of infrastructure and healthcare facilities. Earthquakes, floods, storms, and other disasters can lead to large-scale displacement and public health crises,” said Ms Lau Hiu-Ching (Lucy), a water and sanitation specialist with over a decade of field experience.
• Diseases Without Pause: Across the globe, millions of people die each year from infectious diseases that are preventable and easily treatable — such as measles, cholera and malaria. “In the face of multiple epidemics, MSF employs a wide range of strategies to contain outbreaks and prevent their spread. We also actively contribute to the research and development of medical tools, including vaccines and treatment protocols, and advocate for their broader accessibility,” said Mr Chiu Cheuk-Pong, President of MSF Hong Kong, who served as a nurse during the Ebola response in Liberia in 2014.
• Lifesaving Without Pause: For over 50 years, MSF has worked in some of the world’s most challenging environments, remaining steadfast in its commitment to providing medical and humanitarian assistance – whether the wake of war, natural disasters, or during disease outbreaks.
The exhibition brings visitors face-to-face with the resilience and professionalism that underpin MSF's lifesaving work. Through vivid and interactive panels, visitors can explore the realities of humanitarian medical work and actively participate by expressing their thoughts at the on-site interactive area.
Call for Immediate and Sustained Ceasefire in Gaza
As the war in Gaza grinds on, MSF teams are providing lifesaving medical care and humanitarian support amid a collapsed health system and overwhelming needs — an urgent reality also reflected in this exhibition.
For more than 20 months, Israeli authorities and forces have inflicted a punishing campaign, including large-scale forced displacement, mass killings against Palestinians in Gaza. On a daily basis, MSF teams witness the destruction of vital civilian infrastructure, and blockades choking off access to food, water, medicines, and other essential humanitarian supplies. Israel is systematically destroying the conditions necessary for Palestinian life. Gaza’s homes, hospitals, markets, water networks, roads, and power grids have been demolished, not by disregard but by design. MSF calls for impartial needs-based aid to be facilitated into the Gaza Strip at scale, the protection of civilians, and the immediate restoration of a sustained ceasefire.
MSF Hong Kong has launched an online initiative calling for an immediate and sustained ceasefire in Gaza. Visitors are encouraged to support this signature campaign by visiting https://www.msf.hk/en/our-work/issues/in-focus/gaza-war, participating in the exhibition’s #GAZASTOPNOW voting area, and sharing their experience using #LifesavingWithoutPause to help raise awareness of the ongoing crisis.
About 7.7 MSF Day MSF Day, observed annually on 7 July, is a call to the public to stand in solidarity with MSF’s frontline workers. By dedicating a day’s income or support, participants help ensure MSF’s independence and ability to respond solely based on medical needs—free from political, economic, or religious influence.
MSF Hong Kong extends heartfelt appreciation to its Medical Action Partners, namely BAS (HK) Ltd, BB Group Company Limited, and Wilson Group, for their generous contributions to the success of MSF Day 2025 and "Lifesaving Without Pause" Exhibition.
