The Longines Hong Kong International Horse Show takes pride in being recognised as an “M” Mark event by the Major Sports Events Committee, a symbol of commitment to enhancing Hong Kong's image as the capital of international sports events. This distinction marks the event as a key feature on the territory's sports calendar, celebrating the intense, spectacular, and signature experiences. With so many exciting activities to experience, the following are the top eight unmissable ones for visitors:
1. Stellar showjumping and incredible dressage lineup Five arena performances will span the three-day event in February 2025. Each performance will feature a 5-star international show jumping class, two equestrian displays, and two additional show jumping classes or dressage displays. Visitors will have the chance to witness 30 international 5-Star show jumpers compete for prize money totalling approximately HK$6.5 million in the show jumping classes. The highlight class being the Longines Grand Prix on Sunday evening.
Amongst the world-class show jumpers to watch are Max Kuhner (AUT), Julien Anquetin (FRA), Roger Yvevs Bost (FRA), Scott Brash (GBR), Jack and John Whitaker (GBR), Richard Vogel (GER), David Will (GER), and Pius Schwizer (SUI). In addition to the regular jumping competitions, 10 of the world’s best ‘power jumpers’ are invited to take part in the Puissance (the human equivalent is the high jump) and other power competitions, which will result in a total of 70 international horses being flown into Hong Kong to participate in the event. The lineup includes British eventer, Gemma Stevens who recently won the 6 Bar competition at London International Horse Show.
2. The Thrills of the Shetland Pony Grand National This is a unique event where visitors can expect to experience the thrilling spectacle of eight Shetland ponies and their Jockeys competing against each other around a track with jumping obstacles that mimic those of the famous Aintree Grand National – one of the World’s most famous jump races. This display from the Shetland ponies, brought over from their native United Kingdom, and their Jockeys, aged 8-14, is a great introduction to children and budding equestrian enthusiasts. The race is a non-competitive display and was created to raise money for charity. In 2024, the chosen charity, the Bob Champion Cancer Trust received over £42,000 om the event with all money going to cancer research. Although undoubtedly a fun-filled event, there is also a real spirit of competitiveness among the riders.
3. An incredible display of horsemanship from world-renowned equestrian artist, Santi Serra Santi Serra's artistic display will be a demonstration of the incredible strength and harmony between horse and human. A masterclass in horsemanship, Santi will work with his four Arabian horses at liberty, using neither saddle nor bridle. Spectators will have the rare opportunity to see the world-renowned equestrian performer’s horses remain at ease under his guidance, delighting the audiences by galloping and stopping with pinpoint precision in a mesmerising dance.
